SC Freiburg defeats FC Motherwell 3-1 in Conference League playoff

SC Freiburg secured a significant advantage in their Conference League qualification playoff after defeating FC Motherwell 3-1 in Scotland. Despite conceding a goal to Regan Charles-Cook just 69 seconds into the match, the German Bundesliga side recovered through a standout performance by defender Matthias Ginter, who scored twice.

Ginter equalized in the 28th minute with a header and later converted a penalty in the 65th minute following a red card for Motherwell’s Martin Moormann. Keisuke Goto added a third goal for Freiburg in stoppage time to seal the victory at Fir Park. The win places Freiburg in a strong position heading into the second leg at home.

In a notable logistical detour, Freiburg coach Julian Schuster and captain Christian Günter had to conduct a spontaneous press conference from a moving vehicle due to travel delays and stadium access issues in Motherwell. The team now prepares for the return leg and an upcoming DFB-Pokal match against Fortuna Düsseldorf.
