SC Freiburg’s training camp in Schruns readies squad for new season

From 22 July to 31 July 2026, Bundesliga side SC Freiburg held a preparatory camp in the Austrian town of Schruns. Coach Julian Schuster highlighted the blend of hard work and enjoyment, noting activities such as goal‑shooting contests, coordination drills and Cornhole, with losing teams ‘sent to the pool’ for motivation.

Schuster praised the rapid integration of new goalkeeper Mio Backhaus, emphasizing his speed, communication skills and role as a bridge for the four Japanese‑heritage players in the squad. The camp, now in its twentieth edition, was deemed a “full success” for translating video‑based tactics onto the pitch and boosting team morale.

The German club’s emphasis on a positive atmosphere and collective effort aims to strengthen performance ahead of the upcoming Bundesliga campaign.
