SC Magdeburg secures French player Thibaud Briet on long-term deal

SC Magdeburg has announced a long-term strategic signing, securing French national player Thibaud Briet from HBC Nantes. Briet, a 26-year-old left back, has signed a three-year contract that will see him join the German club for the 2028/29 season, running through 2031.

Briet is intended to succeed Icelandic player Elvar Örn Jónsson in the backcourt. Jónsson has confirmed he will leave SC Magdeburg following the 2026/27 season to join Rhein-Neckar Löwen, where he has signed a four-year contract until June 2031.

SC Magdeburg coach and sporting director Bennet Wiegert praised Briet as a dynamic player with significant experience in the Champions League and with the French national team. The acquisition is viewed as a move to ensure roster depth and tactical flexibility for the reigning champions.
