Scafati Mayor criticizes MP Borrelli over Sarno River inspection

Pasquale Aliberti, the Mayor of Scafati, has criticized Member of Parliament Francesco Emilio Borrelli following a recent inspection of the Sarno River. The inspection, conducted via a traditional river boat, aimed to highlight the ongoing pollution and illegal waste discharges affecting the Agro Nocerino Sarnese region.

Aliberti dismissed the inspection as a “propaganda catwalk,” arguing that the presence of illegal discharges is already well-documented. He noted that the local administration had previously denounced these issues, even facing pushback from local entrepreneurs. The Mayor emphasized that the technical details of the situation had already been shared with Borrelli during a previous visit by a parliamentary commission on hydrogeological risk led by Pino Bicchielli.

While Aliberti expressed appreciation for Borrelli’s involvement, he questioned whether the inspection would lead to concrete institutional actions, such as reporting findings to the Prosecutor's Office, or if it would merely serve as a journalistic spectacle.
