Taipei scaffolding collapse in Beitou causes four injuries
A scaffolding structure collapsed during demolition work at the old Beitou Market in Taipei, injuring four people. The victims include one worker and three members of the public. While the three pedestrians sustained minor injuries, the worker who fell from the scaffolding is being monitored for more serious injuries.
Taipei Mayor Chiang Wan-an visited the site and announced that the city government would impose a 2.5 million TWD fine on the construction unit according to contract terms. Additionally, the Department of Building Administration has ordered an immediate work stoppage and will issue the maximum possible fines to the builders and contractors under building regulations. Preliminary findings from the New Construction Office suggest the collapse occurred because the scaffolding was not lowered in accordance with regulations after the building demolition progressed.
