Scaffolding Collapse Halts Construction at Kaporo Centre, Conakry

A scaffolding structure from an 11‑storey building under construction in Kaporo Centre, Conakry, fell onto the roofs of two neighboring houses after strong winds. No fatalities or injuries were reported, but the roofs, metal sheets and wooden supports of the apartments were seriously damaged.

Local authorities, including the district chief, police, gendarmerie and municipal officials, responded promptly, ordered the suspension of the work and oversaw immediate repairs. The construction company pledged to replace the damaged materials and to implement additional safety barriers before any resumption of the project. Residents, such as Aboubacar Fernandez, praised the rapid response but emphasized the need for permanent safety measures.

The incident has highlighted concerns over construction safety in the rapidly developing Ratoma commune, prompting officials to demand stricter oversight for high‑rise projects.
