Napoli: Inmate shot dead near prison in Scampia ambush

Alessandro Uccello, a 57-year-old man from Marano, was killed in a targeted shooting on Tuesday evening in the Scampia area of Naples. The victim, who was serving a sentence under semi-liberty regime, was ambushed on via Roma while traveling toward the Secondigliano prison.

Uccello was struck by multiple gunshots to the chest and face. Despite attempts by emergency medical services to resuscitate him, he died at the scene. Investigators are currently analyzing surveillance footage from the area to identify the perpetrators, who are believed to have used a scooter to facilitate a rapid escape.

The motive remains under investigation, though authorities are exploring various hypotheses, including potential ties to the victim's criminal past. Uccello had previously been convicted in a first-instance trial for the 2016 homicide of Enrico Pezzella, a case that was still under appeal at the time of his death.
