Scampia shooting targets nephew of crime boss Arcangelo Abete
Tensions are rising in the Scampia district of Naples following a targeted shooting involving the Abete crime family. On Monday evening, 23-year-old Mariano Abete, the nephew of incarcerated boss Arcangelo Abete, was shot in the legs by two assailants on a motorcycle near the Chalet Bakù area in via Federico Fellini. While his injuries are serious, he is not reported to be in life-threatening condition.
Investigators are looking into potential internal criminal disputes or conflicts regarding the control of local drug markets. Reports suggest the victim may have had a recent disagreement with a local drug dealer.
In a separate but related incident causing local alarm, a man with severe mental health issues barricaded himself in an apartment near via Roma, firing shots and threatening to set the building on fire. Police isolated the area and eventually apprehended the individual for psychiatric treatment. The incident initially sparked fears of renewed gang violence due to the proximity of the residence to members of the Abbinante clan.
