Scania and Mercedes-Benz showcase firefighting vehicles at AFAC
Major truck manufacturers Scania and Mercedes-Benz are showcasing specialized firefighting vehicles at the Australasian Fire and Emergency Service Authorities Council (AFAC) 2026 conference in Melbourne.
Scania is debuting its new Super 11 five-cylinder engine family, featuring outputs of 350 hp, 390 hp, and 430 hp. The company is displaying a 430 P 8x4 Super 11 chassis designed for aerial-type appliances, alongside a P 360 4x2 CrewCab appliance destined for Tasmania. Scania noted that the Super 11 offers a 7% fuel saving compared to previous five-cylinder models and is designed for the stationary operation required during power take-off (PTO) use.
Mercedes-Benz is presenting a fire-ready Atego 4x4 crew cab. The vehicle features a 7.7-litre 300hp six-cylinder OM936 turbo diesel engine and an Allison six-speed automatic transmission. The Atego 4x4 includes a switchable four-wheel-drive system for off-road conditions and is capable of carrying between 4,000kg and 5,000kg of water, with a gross vehicle mass of 16 tonnes.
