Scania introduces battery-behind-cab solution for electric long-haul trucks

Scania has introduced a new battery configuration designed to facilitate long-haul electric transport. The “Battery-Behind-Cab” solution places additional battery packs directly behind the driver's cabin, supplementing existing batteries located on the chassis and under the cab.

In a typical configuration, two MP20 battery packs behind the cab provide approximately 356 kWh of additional capacity. When combined with other battery placements and Megawatt Charging System (MCS) technology, the setup can enable a driving range of up to 720 kilometers.

The solution is designed for selected 6x2-4 tractor units. By utilizing an “Increased Vehicle Dimension” (IVD) front, Scania can offer a European 6x2-4 configuration that maintains maneuverability and trailer compatibility, even when the total vehicle length exceeds 16.5 meters. This flexibility allows transport companies to balance requirements for payload, range, and specific bodywork needs.
