Scarlett Camberos and Julián Quiñones nominated for 2026 Ballon d'Or

Scarlett Camberos and Julián Quiñones have been named to the final shortlist for the 2026 Ballon d'Or, ending a 19-year period without a Mexican nominee in the final selection. Camberos makes history as the first Mexican woman to be nominated for the Women's Ballon d'Or.

Camberos, captain of América Femenil, earned the nomination following a season in which she scored 27 goals and provided seven assists across 47 matches. Her achievements include winning the Liga MX Femenil Clausura 2026, the Concacaf Champions Cup, and the Campeón de Campeonas. She was also named the Concacaf Most Valuable Player.

Additionally, América Femenil has been nominated for the Women's Club of the Year award, making them the first club from Mexico or Concacaf to be included in this category alongside European giants like Barcelona and Manchester City.

Previously, the only Mexican players to appear on the Ballon d'Or shortlist were Guillermo Ochoa, Rafael Márquez, Javier Hernández, Andrés Guardado, and Giovani dos Santos. Ochoa was the only one to receive a vote, recording a single point in 2007.
