Scebi Dlamini, Maskandi icon Inkosi Yamagcokama, laid to rest
Thousands of mourners, government officials, and music industry leaders gathered at Mzisho Stadium in uMsinga, KwaZulu-Natal, on August 15, 2026, to hold a funeral for Maskandi musician Scebi Dlamini.
Known professionally as ‘Inkosi Yamagcokama’, the 29-year-old artist died following a car accident near Richards Bay on August 9, 2026. The crash also claimed the life of his backup singer and crew member, Sipho ‘Gupta’ Mchunu. The duo was reportedly traveling to a festival performance at the time of the accident.
Dlamini was a prolific figure in the Maskandi genre, having released over 20 albums and credited with modernizing the traditional Zulu sound to appeal to urban youth. His funeral included significant support from the KwaZulu-Natal provincial government and King Misuzulu kaZwelithini, who provided resources and financial aid to the grieving family.
