Schachfreunde Berlin finishes 15th at European Club Cup
Schachfreunde Berlin secured 15th place in the European Club Cup after finishing the tournament with 10 team points, recording five wins and two losses. Despite facing high-rated opponents, individual players Emil Schmidek, Tymon Czernek, and Reiner Polzin achieved draws against top-tier competition from the Macedonian team Alkaloid.
Other German representatives included FC St. Pauli, which finished in 38th place. The tournament's open section was won by the Turkish club Bayegan Pendik Chess Sports Club. The event highlighted the varying levels of professional involvement among German clubs, with some teams fielding amateur players due to financial and scheduling constraints.
