Schaeffler accelerates restructuring and pivots to robotics
Schaeffler is undergoing a rapid restructuring following its acquisition of Vitesco. The company has already cut 3,715 jobs, representing approximately 79 percent of its planned 4,700 reductions, with the process expected to conclude by the end of 2028. This restructuring is yielding higher-than-expected financial benefits, with projected savings for 2029 estimated at over 350 million euros.
Despite these savings, the company faces challenges in its e-mobility division, which reported a 240 million euro write-down due to weaker-than-expected performance among European manufacturers and a sluggish Chinese market. To diversify growth, Schaeffler is pivoting toward humanoid robotics, where order intake has risen to approximately 400 million euros, including new customers in China.
Overall, Schaeffler reported a slight decrease in group revenue to 17.5 billion euros, while the business for traditional internal combustion engine components also saw a decline.
