Schalke 04 considers Veltins-Arena capacity expansion
Schalke 04 CEO Matthias Tillmann has confirmed that the club is seriously considering expanding the capacity of the Veltins-Arena. The current stadium holds approximately 62,000 spectators, but the club faces high demand that exceeds available ticket supply. With 230,000 club members and 40,000 season ticket holders, Tillmann noted that daily tickets often sell out almost immediately.
While the idea of adding a third tier to the arena has been discussed, Tillmann described such plans as ‘grey theory’ for now. He emphasized that several complex factors must be addressed before any decision is made, including structural feasibility, static stability, financial viability, and the logistical challenges of conducting construction while the stadium remains in operation. The club is currently in a strategic phase to determine what expansions are possible.
