FC Schalke 04 loses 1‑2 to Gütersloh, unveils new alternate kit and keeps number 10 for Dzeko
FC Schalke 04 were defeated 1–2 by Regionalliga side FC Gütersloh in their first pre‑season test match, with goals from Julius Langfeld (45+3’) and Paolo Maiella (76’) for the hosts and a late free‑kick by Adi Aouchiche (90+2’) for Schalke. The match was marked by the injury of defender Hasan Kurucay, who left the field with a thigh problem, and a costly error by substitute goalkeeper Kevin Müller that led to the second goal.
Ahead of the game Schalke presented a new green alternate kit featuring new sponsors BEUMER Group and BLÅKLÄDER, priced at €99.95 for adults. The club also confirmed that the number 10 shirt remains unassigned, keeping it free for former striker Edin Džeko should he return.
In a separate squad decision, four senior players – Thomas Kalas, Martin Wasinski, Steve Noode and Mauro Zalazar – were moved to the U23 side, signalling a strategic roster trim ahead of the upcoming Bundesliga season.
