Axel Hefer re‑elected to Schalke 04 supervisory board
At the FC Schalke 04 members’ assembly in the Veltins‑Arena, long‑time supervisory‑board chairman Axel Hefer was re‑elected with 2,975 votes out of 4,902 voting members. Holger Brauner also kept his seat, receiving 2,498 votes. Challengers Michael Esken (1,188 votes) and Malte Stuckmann (1,911 votes) failed to win a place.
Hefer acknowledged “Wir haben Fehler gemacht, auch große” but stressed the club’s progress after its promotion back to the Bundesliga after three years. He warned that the club must cut its roughly €100 million negative equity by at least 10 % each season or face league point deductions, adding that “Transfer revenues are the biggest competitive disadvantage in Schalke’s history.”
The assembly also featured debate over the fan‑club representation in the board, with the Schalke Fan‑Club Verband currently holding exclusive rights. A vote on possible charter changes is scheduled for the next year. The re‑election secures continuity as the club prepares for the new season amid financial constraints and a recent surge in sponsorship partnerships.
