Schalke debates keeping veteran striker Edin Dzeko, legends weigh in

Former Schalke 04 striker Klaus Fischer, now 76, said Edin Dzeko – who is 40 – knows where the goal is but lacks the speed for a counter‑attacking style. He suggested the team should play to bring the ball into the penalty area and serve Dzeko from the flanks. Fellow club legend defender Klaus “Tanne” Fichtel, at 43 the oldest player ever to appear in the Bundesliga, added that older players can rely on routine and instinct rather than pace.

Schalke 04’s daily news feed also reported other club matters: U23 defender Tim Dietrich will move to Preußen Münster, a large development project is underway at the Berger Feld site, and various transfer rumors involve players such as Ilyes Hamache and Sead Kolasinac.
