Mauro Zalazar signs for NK Kustošija Zagreb from FC Schalke 04
Uruguayan midfielder Mauro Zalazar, 21, has left Germany's FC Schalke 04 to join Croatian second‑division side NK Kustošija Zagreb on a permanent deal. Schalke announced the move on Friday, with director of professional football Youri Mulder thanking the player and wishing him success in Zagreb. Zalazar, a junior national team member, made his senior debut for Schalke in a 3‑0 win over Hannover 96 on 17 October 2025 and recorded limited first‑team minutes, also featuring for the U23 side and in the DFB‑Pokal.
The transfer is free of an immediate fee, but Schalke secured a future sell‑on clause. Previously, Zalazar spent time on loan at SC Braga and was developed after moving from FC Granada’s U19 squad in summer 2024. His agent Andy Bara, who recently switched Zalazar to Niagara Sports, described the Croatian club as a “stepping‑stone” for young talent seeking exposure in European football.
