Schalke players Sofiane El Fowzi and Robin Gosens injured in collision

Schalke players Sofiane El Fowzi and Robin Gosens sustained significant injuries during a Bundesliga match against FC Köln on Saturday. The injuries occurred in the 37th minute of the first half following a violent aerial collision between the two teammates.

Medical examinations confirmed that El Fowzi suffered a broken nose and a deep forehead wound requiring stitches. Gosens also required multiple stitches to treat lacerations on his forehead. Both players were rushed to the hospital for specialized treatment following the incident.

Schalke has not yet determined when the players will return to training or match action, noting that decisions will be made individually based on their recovery progress. Their availability for the upcoming DFB-Pokal match against Dynamo Dresden remains uncertain.

Köln striker Said Mella, who was involved in the sequence of play by pushing El Fowzi just before the collision, issued a formal apology to the players after the match.
