Scharnstein ÖVP announces mayoral candidate for 2027

The ÖVP Scharnstein/Viechtwang party has announced a leadership transition for the upcoming 2027 municipal elections. Vice Mayor Christof Bammer (41) was unanimously elected as the new local party chairman and will serve as the ÖVP candidate for mayor in 2027.

Incumbent Mayor Rudolf Raffelsberger announced he will not seek re-election after 18 years in office. Raffelsberger stated that after three terms, it is the right time to pass on responsibility. He intends to shift his political focus toward his role as district party chairman for the ÖVP Salzkammergut, emphasizing regional cooperation, economic development, mobility, and social issues at the state level.
