Scheherazade superyacht returns to sea in Italy after four years

The Scheherazade, a luxury superyacht approximately 140 meters long and valued at an estimated $700 million, returned to sea on Friday, August 28, after remaining stationary for over four years. Often referred to as the ‘yacht of Putin,’ the vessel has been under seizure since 2022 following measures taken by the Guardia di Finanza regarding Russian-linked properties in response to the war in Ukraine.

The yacht departed from Marina di Carrara to navigate the Gulf of La Spezia before returning to its original berth. This brief excursion was not a resumption of regular activity but a scheduled technical maneuver. The purpose of the voyage was to conduct sea trials to verify the condition of the engines, systems, and onboard equipment after a prolonged period of inactivity. While the vessel has undergone maintenance and refitting while moored, the sea trial was necessary to test components that cannot be checked while docked.
