Schema markup enables structured data for search engines
Schema markup serves as a method of implementing structured data, typically via JSON-LD, to help search engines and AI systems interpret the specific meaning of web content. By labeling elements such as prices, author names, and ratings, websites can qualify for rich search results like FAQ dropdowns and recipe cards.
Originally launched in 2011 as a collaborative project between Google, Microsoft’s Bing, and Yahoo, Schema.org provides a shared vocabulary for machine-readable data. This standardization allows webmasters to label content once so that various search engines can understand the context of the information provided.
