Schengen Entry/Exit System enforces 90/180-day rule for travelers

With the full implementation of the Entry/Exit System (EES), travelers from Bosnia and Herzegovina entering the Schengen Area must strictly adhere to the 90/180-day rule. The EES electronically records every border crossing, including dates, locations, travel document data, facial images, and fingerprints, making it significantly easier for authorities to detect overstays.

The 90/180 rule dictates that travelers can stay for a maximum of 90 days within any 180-day period. This limit applies cumulatively across all Schengen member states; travelers do not receive separate allowances for individual countries like Croatia, Slovenia, Austria, or Germany. Both the day of entry and the day of exit are included in the calculation.

To assist travelers, the EES official website and the European Commission provide online calculators to track remaining allowed days. While long-term visas or residence permits issued by a member state follow specific residency rules, they do not grant unlimited rights to stay in other Schengen countries. Violating these limits can result in fines, expulsion orders, or entry bans.
