Scheveningen Port to establish new security hub against crime

The Municipality of The Hague, police, the Royal Netherlands Marechaussee, Customs, and the Scheveningen Port Authority are establishing a new Security Hub to combat crime in the Scheveningen port area. The initiative aims to facilitate faster information sharing and quicker responses to suspicious activities by co-locating various enforcement and supervisory organizations.

Mayor Jan van Zanen stated that the hub is intended to make the area stronger by allowing authorities to act more quickly and visibly against criminals. The facility is also designed to be a point of contact for residents and entrepreneurs who have concerns or witness irregularities.

The construction of the hub at Dr. Lelykade is currently underway, with completion expected in the spring of 2027. This project follows agreements made through the Platform against Undermining in Small Seaports, a response to the risk of drug traffickers and human smugglers shifting their operations from larger ports like Rotterdam and Vlissingen to smaller maritime hubs.
