Scheveningen surf tragedy documentary to premiere in The Hague

The documentary ‘Schuim’, directed by filmmaker Bart Grimbergen, is set to premiere in three The Hague cinemas on October 10. The film examines the 2020 Scheveningen surf tragedy, where six surfers were trapped by thick sea foam caused by heavy winds and strong currents. The incident resulted in the deaths of five young men due to suffocation, while one survivor remains.

Produced alongside Hans Mors and featuring cinematographer Roel Wijngaards-de Meij, the documentary reconstructs the event and explores the emotional aftermath for those involved. It includes interviews with survivors, rescuers, and the families of the deceased, focusing on the process of grieving and loss. Following its theatrical run, the film is scheduled to air on Omroep West later this year.
