Schiedam excavates park soil after death of at least five dogs
The municipality of Schiedam has begun excavating soil from a section of De Plantage park following the deaths of at least five dogs. The excavation focuses on a rosebed area several dozen meters in length and width. This precautionary measure was taken at the request of the police, who are investigating the cause of the deaths.
Local reports indicate that dogs experienced symptoms such as vomiting blood after being walked in the park. Authorities have placed warning signs in the area stating, ‘Possible poison present. Watch your child/pet!’ Additionally, potentially toxic mushrooms were discovered near the rosebed and another location within the park.
While the exact cause of death remains unconfirmed, pathological and toxicological examinations are being conducted on several of the deceased dogs. The municipality is storing the excavated soil in containers and stated that if the soil is found to be safe, it may be returned to the park.
