Schiers, Switzerland: Two Italians killed in head-on collision
A violent head-on collision on the N28 national road in Schiers, Grisons, has resulted in the deaths of two Italian citizens. The accident occurred on a straight stretch of the Prettigovia road between Schiers and Grüsch.
According to the cantonal police, a Swiss-registered vehicle traveling from Davos toward Landquart lost control and entered the oncoming lane, striking an Italian-registered car. The force of the impact launched the Italian vehicle against the safety barrier separating the roadway from the railway line. The driver and a passenger in the Italian car died at the scene, while another passenger was seriously injured.
Four other people sustained injuries in the Swiss vehicle: the driver, a woman, and a child were reported to have minor injuries. Emergency response efforts included four ambulances, two Rega helicopters, and one Alpine Air Ambulance helicopter. The road was closed for approximately four and a half hours while authorities investigated the cause of the crash.
