Schiphol Airport Runs Below Sea Level as It Opens Largest Privium Lounge
Amsterdam Schiphol Airport operates about four metres beneath sea level. A network of dikes, canals, pumps and drainage systems continuously removes water, allowing the airport to serve millions of passengers despite its low‑lying location.
On 6 August the airport opened its largest Privium ClubLounge South, an 800‑square‑metre space near the B, C and future A gates. The lounge can host up to 125 Schengen‑area travellers and provides workstations, meeting rooms, shower facilities and a rotating food‑and‑beverage concept. It marks the 25th anniversary of the Privium membership programme and brings the total number of Privium lounges at Schiphol to four.
