Schiphol Airport security staff announce upcoming work stoppages

Security personnel at Schiphol Airport have announced upcoming work stoppages and strict adherence to work rules following an expired ultimatum. The unions CNV and FNV stated that the actions are a response to a lack of concrete guarantees from Schiphol and the three security firms operating at the airport—Securitas, I-SEC, and Trigion—regarding improved working conditions.

The unions are demanding better scheduling, regular breaks, and more certainty regarding days off. They noted that labor issues have intensified since the number of security companies at the airport was reduced from five to three earlier this year. This change has reportedly led to increased workloads and higher rates of sick leave, placing additional pressure on remaining staff.

Union representatives have indicated that the specific dates and times for these short work interruptions will be announced only a few hours in advance. While the unions remain open to further negotiations, they warned that longer strikes could follow if the situation does not improve. Schiphol management described the decision to protest as ‘unpleasant’ but maintained that they take the concerns of security staff seriously.
