Schneider Electric launches multi-chemistry APC Smart-UPS
Schneider Electric has announced the next generation of APC Smart-UPS, the industry’s first monolithic multi-chemistry uninterruptible power supply (UPS) designed for distributed IT and edge environments. The system is engineered to operate with valve-regulated lead-acid (VRLA) or lithium-ion batteries and is built to support future battery chemistries, allowing users to upgrade battery technology without replacing the entire UPS chassis.
Compared to previous models, the new platform offers up to three times the base runtime, 1.4 times more power density, and 57% more outlets. The design aims to reduce electronic waste and has a carbon footprint up to 25.6% lower than previous versions, utilizing sustainable plastics for up to 50% of its plastic components. The system includes EcoStruxure IT software for monitoring performance and energy consumption, alongside cybersecurity certification to IEC 62443 Security Level 2.
Initial offerings will include the SRTD On-Line series in 2.2kVA and 3kVA configurations, targeting servers and networking equipment in medical, light-industrial, and IT applications. The platform can support up to ten external battery packs for extended runtime requirements.
