Schneider Electric launches smart EV charger in North America

Schneider Electric has launched the Schneider Charge, a 48-ampere Level 2 home charging wallbox, in the United States and Canada. The device is designed to deliver up to 11.5 kW while minimizing the need for expensive electrical panel upgrades.

The system utilizes SmartAmp technology, which employs current transformers to monitor real-time household electricity consumption. By sensing when high-draw appliances like air conditioners or ovens are in use, the charger automatically adjusts the power delivered to the electric vehicle to stay within the home's available capacity.

The product is UL 3141 certified for power control systems. The initial version is a hardwired unit featuring a 7.6-meter cable and is available with either J1772 or NACS connectors.
