Schneider Electric report warns of water scarcity risks for European industry

A new study titled ‘The Water Crunch Report’ by Schneider Electric indicates that water supply risks in Europe and the United Kingdom have become as significant to industrial operations as cyberattacks or supply chain disruptions.

Research involving industrial leaders, utility providers, and municipal decision-makers shows that water shortages and supply difficulties have already increased operating costs for 44% of respondents and caused supply chain disruptions for 30%. Furthermore, 44% of companies believe that a severe water supply disruption would impact their operations within 24 hours.

In Central and Eastern Europe, including Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Hungary, Romania, Slovakia, and Ukraine, a related study involving 115 companies highlighted a lack of preparedness. While 49% of respondents identify drought and water scarcity as major upcoming business risks, 53% of companies lack a dedicated water strategy, and only 7% feel highly prepared to manage these risks.
