Schofields identified as optimal interchange for Sydney Metro extensions

Confidential documents released to parliament reveal that senior Sydney Metro officials have identified Schofields as the “optimal interchange location” for future rail network upgrades in Sydney’s northwest.

Proposed plans suggest that a major station at Schofields could serve as a single point of interchange between the T1 Richmond rail line and extended metro lines. Specifically, the connection between St Marys and Tallawong could be facilitated by extending both the Northwest and Western Sydney Airport metro lines to meet at Schofields.

However, officials noted that extending these lines to meet at Schofields is complicated by the necessity of varying separate public-private partnerships for the existing M1 line and the Western Sydney Airport metro rail currently under construction. The Minns government is expected to consider business cases for these metro line extensions.
