School accidents in Poland: Sports activities account for most injuries

Data from the 2024/2025 school year indicates that over 25,700 accidents involving children occurred in schools and educational facilities. According to analysis by Compensa based on Ministry of National Education data, sports-related activities accounted for 66.1% of these incidents.

Gymnasiums were the most frequent locations for accidents, recording 12,388 cases, followed by playgrounds with 3,524 incidents. Corridors and stairs accounted for 12.4% of accidents. Approximately 75% of all recorded incidents took place in primary schools.

Compensa’s claims data also highlights a seasonal trend, with the highest number of claims reported between March and May. The analysis notes that for serious injuries, the costs of medical treatment and rehabilitation can significantly exceed basic health impairment benefits.
