School Chess Tournaments Held in Chile and Bolivia

Provincial school chess championships were staged in Chile's Cartagena municipality, where representatives for the 2026 National Sports Games were selected. Winners in the Sub‑14 and Juvenile categories, such as Antonella Serrano Rojas and Agustín Martínez Enríquez, will advance to the regional championship in Valparaíso on 25 August.

In Bolivia, La Paz hosted the second National School Chess Olympiad, drawing more than 60 participants. Top performers included Matías Huanca and Katerin Quispe in the primary divisions, as well as Reyner Sansuste and Alexia Condori in the older age groups. The tournament featured seven‑round, 15‑minute games with a five‑second increment.

Both events showcase growing interest in scholastic chess across South America, highlighting emerging talent and institutional support for the sport at the youth level.
