Ministry of National Education issues new school regulations for 2026-2027

The Ministry of National Education has issued a comprehensive circular to 81 provinces outlining new regulations for the 2026-2027 academic year, which is set to begin on September 14, 2026. Key measures focus on enhancing school security through controlled entry/exit points, the separation of pedestrian and vehicle traffic, and the implementation of an electronic School Appointment System for parent visits.

New disciplinary and administrative rules include a ban on student mobile phone use in classrooms, a prohibition on requesting registration fees or mandatory payments from parents, and a ban on unauthorized practice exams. Additionally, teachers and educational staff are now required to wear aprons or lab coats to maintain professional dignity. To support school security, the Ministry plans to employ 30,000 garden staff nationwide to monitor premises and assist with entry/exit protocols.

Economic concerns have also emerged as families prepare for the new term. Basic stationery costs have risen to approximately 2,500 TL, representing a 25% increase from the previous year. Furthermore, school shuttle service costs in Istanbul are projected to reach between 40,000 TL and over 90,000 TL annually depending on the distance traveled.
