School infrastructure crises reported in Paraguay and Venezuela
Educational institutions in Paraguay and Venezuela are facing significant infrastructure challenges due to weather and neglect. In Fernando de la Mora, Paraguay, the Escuela Pitiantuta suspended in-person classes for 592 students following a severe weekend storm. The storm caused widespread damage to roof structures, resulting in water leaks across all classrooms and electrical system risks. Hail also damaged the school's covered area, destroying teaching materials, books, and appliances such as air conditioners and fans.
In Puerto Ordaz, Venezuela, parents and representatives of the Unidad Educativa Nacional Simón Bolívar staged a partial blockade of Avenida Atlántico to protest the school's deteriorating conditions. More than 1,000 students are affected by leaking roofs, a lack of electricity, and the absence of ventilation or air conditioning. Protesters expressed frustration over unfulfilled promises from local authorities to implement a recovery plan, noting that they have been requesting repairs since early June.
