School officials and staff face allegations of student exploitation in Uganda and Ghana

Authorities in Uganda and Ghana are investigating separate allegations of sexual exploitation involving students and school staff.

In Uganda, Anna Nanziri, the headteacher of St. Gonzaga Senior Secondary School in the Jinja district, is under police investigation. Students have accused her of facilitating the sexual exploitation of female pupils by a 20-year-old male student. Allegations suggest Nanziri used her personal vehicle to transport girls to her residence in Njeru Municipality on weekends. At least eight girls have come forward, with some reporting that the student used threats of suspension or claims of medical necessity to pressure them into sexual acts.

In Ghana, a security guard at Mim Senior High School in the Ahafo Region was reportedly found in a room with a female student following claims of blackmail. The guard allegedly threatened to report the student for leaving campus without permission to coerce her into a relationship. A video circulating on social media shows the student in her uniform and the guard partially clothed, leading to a confrontation where students reportedly intercepted the guard.
