Researchers found no significant differences in students' quality of life or mental‑health indicators, while the stricter rules saved about £94 per pupil annually by reducing monitoring time.
Another study examined 25 adults aged 18‑30 in Germany who limited smartphone use to the bare minimum for 72 hours. Magnetic‑resonance imaging revealed altered activity in brain regions linked to reward and craving, associated with dopamine and serotonin pathways and comparable to patterns seen with substance addiction. Psychological tests, however, showed no clear changes in mood or cravings.
Both investigations suggest that short‑term restrictions on mobile devices have limited measurable benefits for well‑being, even as they reveal subtle neuro‑biological effects.
