School security incidents reported in Ecuador and Mexico
In Guayaquil, Ecuador, police conducted a security intervention at an educational unit in the Guasmo area following an incident where a student allegedly threatened a teacher with a knife. Approximately 50 officers, supported by trained dogs, searched classrooms for weapons and controlled substances. While no prohibited items were found during this specific operation, authorities stated that such controls will continue across the district to ensure student safety and monitor illicit activities near schools.
In Izamal, Mexico, a 14-year-old male was detained after entering Secundaria Técnica Número 7 with a knife, allegedly intending to attack a female student. Witnesses and parents suggested the motive was retaliation for alleged bullying and discrimination previously experienced by the teenager. School officials evacuated students as a preventive measure, and no injuries were reported. The minor remains in police custody pending legal proceedings.
