School supply costs rise ahead of new academic year in Turkey

Rising costs for school supplies and clothing are placing significant pressure on family budgets in Turkey ahead of the new academic year. In Erzurum, the total expense for a student's clothing, including uniforms, shoes, and outerwear, can reach between 4,500 and 5,000 TL.

Stationery costs have also seen a notable increase. According to the All Stationers Association, the cost to fill a basic school bag with essential items has risen to approximately 2,500 TL, up from 1,900–2,000 TL last year. This represents a roughly 25% increase in stationery prices. Depending on the grade level, stationery expenses for primary and middle school students range from 2,000 to 3,000 TL, while high school students may face costs between 3,000 and 4,000 TL. Backpacks have been identified as one of the items experiencing the highest price hikes.
