School zone camera enforcement differs in Georgia and New Orleans

In Tallulah Falls, Georgia, a new sign warns drivers that school‑zone speeds are "photo enforced" under state law. The Columbus Police Department, operating the program through RedSpeed, can issue citations during posted school‑zone hours, one hour before and after, and even outside those times. Payments are handled by mail; there is no in‑person payment location.

In New Orleans, Louisiana, the automated school‑zone cameras have remained shut off since the end of the 2024‑2025 school year. Police are still enforcing speed limits with speed guns and patrols, but no camera‑generated tickets are being issued. The city is contesting a 2024 law that requires municipalities to split camera‑ticket revenue with school districts, a dispute that has involved lawsuits and a threatened malfeasance charge. The cameras had previously generated $1.375 million in escrow revenue, now slated for a 60/40 split between the city and the school district.
