Schools in Bhutan and India implement child safeguarding programmes

Educational programmes focused on child safeguarding and the prevention of gender-based violence have been implemented in schools across Bhutan and India.

In Gelephu, Bhutan, RENEW and the Department of Surface Transport conducted a programme targeting 163 students aged 10 to 14. The initiative, part of the ACCESS Project, aimed to increase awareness regarding sexual exploitation, abuse, and harassment. The programme focused on teaching personal safety, boundaries, and consent to help students identify and respond to inappropriate behaviour as the region develops the Gelephu Mindfulness City.

In Kigwema, India, the Lighthouse School Complex SRGBV Committee held a sensitisation programme at the Government Higher Secondary School. The event involved students, teachers, and staff, featuring experts from the District Child Protection Unit and local police. Discussions covered the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, safe reporting mechanisms, and digital safety to prevent cybercrime and misuse of personal data.
