Schools in Dominican Republic's Cibao region face six-month funding shortage
The Dominican Association of Teachers (ADP) has reported that educational centers in the Cibao region have not received decentralization funds from the Ministry of Education for over six months. This lack of quarterly disbursements has created a critical shortage of essential supplies, including drinking water, cleaning materials, and toilet paper.
In several provinces, such as Samaná, Duarte, and Hermanas Mirabal, schools have been forced to dismiss students at midday because they cannot afford basic necessities. Teachers reported that students have resorted to using notebook paper in restrooms due to the absence of toilet paper. Additionally, school directors are struggling to maintain facilities as suppliers are increasingly refusing to extend credit due to accumulated debts.
