Schools in Germany and Austria launch sustainability and health initiatives

Educational institutions in Germany and Austria have implemented dedicated programs focused on sustainability, health, and environmental protection.

At FOSBOS Aschaffenburg in Germany, an action week held from October 12 to 16, 2026, emphasized healthy lifestyles and conscious media consumption under the motto “Phones off. World on.” Activities included a nature conservation initiative in the Spessart Nature Park, a school supply exchange to promote resource conservation, and physical fitness challenges. The program also included a waste collection drive and efforts to encourage healthy nutrition.

In Vienna, Austria, the Pflichtschulcluster Nussdorf conducted a two-week climate project aimed at fostering environmental awareness among students. A key component was the “Climate Miles” initiative, where 316 participants from 19 classes traveled 3,154 climate-friendly miles via walking, scootering, or public transport. These results are being reported to the Climate Alliance Austria for potential EU-wide recognition. The project covered various ecological topics, ranging from forest protection to ocean conservation, involving students from grades one through eight.
