Schools in Montenegro and Croatia recognized for environmental initiatives

Educational institutions in Montenegro and Croatia have received recognition for environmental and sustainability initiatives.

In Montenegro, the CIRCLEWASTE project, implemented by NGO Zero Waste Montenegro and supported by the German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ), awarded top schools in the ‘E-cirKULiraj’ competition. The primary winners included the Mihailo Žugić Primary School from Odžak and the Plužine Educational Center. During the competition, participants collected over 3,000 electronic devices and nearly 800 kilograms of e-waste for recycling.

In Croatia, Osnovna škola Centar from Rijeka won a national award from the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries for its project focused on reducing food waste. The students' initiative, titled ‘Raising awareness for changes in habits at home and/or in shopping and/or in school’, aimed to educate the community on the ecological and economic impacts of food waste through research and visual presentations.
