Schools launch recycling and animal‑welfare education programs in Mexico and Spain

The Tamaulipas State Education Secretariat in Mexico will join a recycling campaign led by the state’s Urban Development and Environment Ministry and the judiciary. Education secretary Miguel Ángel Valdez García announced contests to recognize school projects that promote environmental care, aiming to embed recycling and sustainability permanently in the curriculum for thousands of students.

In the town of Grado, Asturias, Spain, the IES César Rodríguez secondary school has created a cat‑care program in partnership with the municipal animal‑protection group Grao Animals. Three rescued cats now live in a dedicated shelter on campus, where they are used as a teaching tool to foster student participation, emotional wellbeing, and awareness of animal abandonment, adoption and responsible cohabitation.

Both initiatives reflect a growing emphasis on hands‑on environmental and animal‑welfare education in schools.
