Schools resume classes following union dissolution and security disruptions
Schools in the Maï-Ndombe 1 educational province are set to resume classes on Monday, October 19, 2026. This follows the official dissolution of the provincial inter-union committee for national education. Authorities stated the dissolution was due to the union's refusal to engage in negotiations and illegal strike actions. Systematic controls will be implemented to ensure attendance, and officials warned that staff failing to report to their posts will face disciplinary sanctions.
In a separate educational development, schools are also reopening this Monday following closures caused by vandalism and unrest. This reopening has necessitated the rescheduling of several national examinations. While the Primary School Achievement Certificate (PSAC) schedule remains unchanged, other assessments such as the National Certificate of Education (NCE) and Grade 4 and 5 evaluations have been moved to new dates in late October. Discussions are ongoing with Cambridge to reschedule the School Certificate (SC) and Higher School Certificate (HSC) exams that were canceled on October 13 due to security concerns.
