Schrödinger launches Bunsen AI agent for drug discovery
Schrödinger has introduced Bunsen, an agentic AI co-scientist designed to automate computational studies in drug discovery. The system runs the company’s simulation software on behalf of scientists, making methodological decisions that previously required trained computational chemists or bioinformaticians.
Bunsen is currently in early access with selected customers, including a strategic software agreement with Bristol Myers Squibb. The platform is supported by compute from NVIDIA and Google Cloud, with a full commercial release anticipated before the end of 2026.
Schrödinger’s leadership, including CEO Ramy Farid, previously expressed skepticism regarding AI-driven discovery but has since described the technology as transformative. The tool aims to address the growing challenge of evaluating the massive volume of drug candidate hypotheses generated by modern research.
